Pelican Island NWR birding tour gallery

Joanna Taylor, a refuge ranger at Pelican Island NWR, led a birding tour to the refuge on December 11, 2004 for Pelican Island Audubon Society members to view the migratory birds fresh in from their long journeys to their winter home. A brisk December morning did not detour the group who were delighted by the great abundance of migratory birds observed. Birds Impoundment, especially, was a hotbed of activity with great numbers of white pelicans present along with egrets, herons, a few roseate spoonbills, a kingfisher, and an osprey perched on a branch eating a fish.
