Audubon Academy 2006

March 24-26, 2006

Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, FL

The purpose of Audubon Academy is to help work toward strengthening "....chapter leadership by providing tools for effective chapter governance, communications, fundraising, conservation, and community involvement." Birding trips to Ft. De Soto Park were interspersed with workshops to make for an interesting weekend. Here a photographer misses catching a Brown Pelican flying by.
A Palm Warbler tries to look inconspicuous.
Pelican Island Audubon Society President Richard Baker with Board members Susan Boyd and Joe Carroll bird along Ft. De Soto Beach which has been called the #1 beach in the United States.
A Laughing Gull comes in for a landing causing a bit of a disturbance.
A large flock of shorebirds disturbed by a beachcomber rise off the beach.
All flying in concert, the birds circled close offshore than returned en masse to land on the beach.
A curious Squirrel investigates the birders, probably to see why anyone would be out so early in the morning.
The beach, located on the Gulf of Mexico, is littered with Sand Dollars.
A Snowy Egret mixes with the White Ibises.
Gulls in an aerial fight over a Crab.
Singer-songwriter Erica Wheeler entertained the crowd with environmentally-friendly folk music.
It was not all birding and music, though, as Susan Boyd, Juanita Baker, and Richard Baker prepare for the start of another workshop.
